Tips for making Parker House Buns
Gluten free dough can be a beast to work with sometimes, but we have found ways that really help make the process easy! When mixing the dough we highly recommend using a stand mixer with the paddle attachment. Since gluten free flour blends don't contain wheat, we are missing the gluten which aids in binding and raising. Mixing gluten free dough for longer (at least 2 minutes on a high speed) helps activate the xanthan gum which is what is necessary to help in the binding of gluten free flours. It is also a form of "kneading" the dough and is much easier than trying to handle a sticky mess.
Make sure to lightly dust a clean counter space or piece of parchment paper with our Parker House Gluten Free Flour to help keep the dough from sticking. You'll also want to lightly coat the dough just enough to make it workable. Try not to add too much or it will dry out the buns.

Author: Parker House Products Total Time: 1 hour Yield: 6 buns
Ingredients:
- Parker House Gluten Free Bread Mix
- 1 Tbsp yeast (included in package) (10g)
- 1 egg
- 3/4 cup warm water (177g)
- 2 Tbsp melted butter (28g)
- extra gluten free flour for dusting
- 1 egg + 1 Tbsp water for egg wash
- sesame seeds
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 200 degrees and then TURN IT OFF.
- In a stand mixer, using the paddle attachment, add all your ingredients to the bowl and slowly mix. Scrape down the sides and then turn up the mixer to a medium speed for 2 minutes. Dough will be sticky and look intimidating to work with, but don’t worry.
- Sprinkle your gf flour on either some parchment paper or a flat surface, and scrape your dough out of the bowl. Sprinkle the top of the dough with more flour until the ball is lightly coated and it is no longer sticky.
- Cut dough into 6 equal pieces depending on what size bun you want. Flour your hands a bit and shape pieces into a round “bun” keeping it a little bit flatter than what you want because these will rise.
- Place buns on a parchment covered baking sheet, cover with plastic wrap, and place in the warm oven. Let rise for 30-40 mins and then remove them from the oven.
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Brush your buns with the egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
7. Bake for 15-18 mins until golden brown. Brush with extra melted butter once out of the oven if you'd like, but totally optional. Enjoy! Gluten Free Made Easy!
